It’s interesting that when I look back on it, I’ve been dreaming almost my entire life. But I never saw it as a gift, and definitely never paid attention to them much. It was only AFTER I asked God specifically for this gift about 2 years ago that I remembered a bunch of childhood dreams and dreams I have had over the course of my life. It was like the Lord was showing me, “You’ve always had this gift. You didn’t have to ask me for it.”
In a way, it’s like the gift awakened in its own time. In the right time.
So I’ve been posting and sharing dreams on YouTube now for about 6 months or a year, but I’ve been having them for MUCH longer than that. In fact, as far back as junior high school I’ve been having dreams. If I had them younger than that, I can’t recall. It’s highly likely.
I think when people see these posts by dreamers, they think it’s just… we have a dream, we know what it means in 5 minutes, we turn on our camera, and we feel good that we’ve used the gift. But oh my. It’s so so much more than that. Not that easy. More involved. More responsibility. More wisdom is needed. Less cookie cutter.
There’s a lot of discipline that comes along with it. God is sometimes sharing His secrets with you and you have a responsibility to guard those and NOT share them. Sometimes, he’s showing you things about other people you can NEVER divulge to them. You might have to end a friendship with them, walk away from them, or follow other instructions God gives you from the dream and you can never tell them this. If you think that is “easy”, you would be sorely mistaken. It’s extremely difficult at times. But….I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Most recently, my latest challenge within it, is that I keep having dreams about a person I’ve never met physically. I know this person is alive. I know things by seeing this person online, but we’ve never formally met. I can see a pattern in the dreams God is giving me about this individual, but I haven’t yet been able to fully discern the message in it. Sometimes, it’s not as easy as you think to decode. Am I supposed to be praying for this person? Am I going to be meeting this person, so you are preparing me to know things ahead of time? Or are you showing me something within myself and are choosing to use this person to show it to me?
Ugh! LOL This is the path. A dreamer/seer has to be open to any and all possibilities.
And another thing is that Holy Spirit doesn’t always tell you what you want to hear. YIKES! Sometimes, He’s even silent and tells you nothing. I don’t think this is to just be mean, as this isn’t in His character. It’s to develop you. You can’t learn if He’s always doing everything for you. He trains you in the secret place through patience, slow development, repetition, and private training.
I can write down a dream or a vision and it won’t become revelation until 6 months later when I’m sitting at a stop light, shopping at the vintage market, or taking a shower. It’s just so amazing how the spiritual realm works and how and when God chooses to give revelation. So sometimes, I don’t know what something means for months or even years.
I don’t just see in the night. I also see in the day. So now, I have a dreaming gift that works along the discerning of spirits gift. I can discern a particular spirit in a person and have honed that gift for years. I’ve ended friendships with women from things I discerned. I’ve ended one engagement from spirits I discerned in him. I’ve left jobs from things I discerned in managers. Again, not an easy to gift to carry. Sometimes, the price is HEFTY.
There are times you will sometimes just want to not have it, because of the responsibility that comes with it. But ultimately, that isn’t what you want, because God has chosen you. He trusts you. And that isn’t something to take lightly. We’re not talking about a spouse or friend here. We’re talking about the God of this entire universe, and I never take that lightly.
To see is to know is to be misunderstood on an epic scale is to be favored is to be required to use ample amounts of wisdom.
That’s the life of a seer. It’s not an easy mantle to bear. People will want an explanation from you or think things of you that aren’t so, because they simply can’t…
See what you see. And that is okay. We all have different gifts.
Before we become bitter with another person for a decision they made. Before we judge a decision. Before we assign blame or misunderstanding or opinion, we must all remember that sometimes, God has shared a secret with someone and asked them to do a hard thing – keep the secret.
I never want to be guilty of divulging God’s secrets when he hasn’t asked me to or released me to. But I also don’t want to be destroyed for lack of knowledge. And if one major way the Lord has chosen to impart wisdom and knowledge to me is through dreaming, likewise I don’t want to be destroyed from lack of it.
“Behold, in this you are not right. I will answer you, for God is greater than man. Why do you contend against him, saying, ‘He will answer none of man’s words’? For God speaks in one way, and in two, though man does not perceive it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, while they slumber on their beds, then he opens the ears of men and terrifies them with warnings, that he may turn man aside from his deed and conceal pride from a man; he keeps back his soul from the pit, his life from perishing by the sword.”
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.”
“For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints.”
Every time a dreamer interprets, a seer sees and makes decisions, or value is ascribed to that which the Lord gives, multiplication for spiritual capacity occurs internally. And then more is given.
“His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.”
I just wanted to share a little bit about what it’s actually like to carry a gift from the Lord. No matter what it is, you’re likely to have similar experiences. Because with it comes great responsibility, stewardship, and wisdom. But understand that in so doing, you are also simultaneously having these same things imparted to you, cultivated within you, and enhanced in greater measure.
It’s worth it.
Love, T
