What A Lack of Discernment Looks Like

1. Not knowing the difference between what God allows you to do and what His heart is. Sometimes, God will give us over to a reprobate mind, meaning He may allow us to go one way, but His heart yearns for something else entirely different.
   • We pay attention to God’s heart by what He initially speaks (Numbers 22:12)
   • God was angry in v22 because Balaam lacked discernment.
2. Clueless about the presence of God
   • Balaam was clueless the Angel of Yahweh was even on his path! He could not even sense it. Lack of discernment looks like lack of knowledge of God on our path or even in our lives.
3. People who are willing to leave their sins or unhealthy habits only if/when those sins are no longer accessible.
   • Passive obedience instead of active. It’s religion and not relationship. Rules, not love.
   • Balaam was only willing to turn back because God was blocking his path – not because he had a right heart for what God wanted.
